QuickProxy 2009.07.03 Submitted

I’ve submitted the latest version of QuickProxy to the Mozilla team for approval, and hopefully it wont take too long to go through, although there are ~200 odd extensions before mine in the queue =(. For those keen to get started you should be able to download the latest version by going to the QuickProxy page, and clicking on the See All Versions link (Or visit it directly here) .

There aren’t many changes visible in this release. The only noticeable changes are the removal of the (non-functional) open browser proxy settings button from the preferences page. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to correct this in the current release, but it is still in the pipeline, so if you liked the idea hopefully it will be returning in releases to come. The other minor change was a correction of the German tooltips over the icon, as these were the wrong way around for enabled/disabled.

Underneath there’s really been no major differences, and most of the work was testing in as many situations as possible to hopefully isolate the bugs described that resulted in the proxy always being switched on after a browser restart. During these we were unsuccessful in re-producing the issue, so if anyone does experience it in this version of QuickProxy please let me know with as much detail as possible in your setup.

That’s enough from me, and let’s hope for a smooth release =)

Thank you thank you thank you.

I upgraded to 3.5 before checking if you had this ready. So I spent the last couple of days manually switching my proxy on and off for the office. Glad to have it updated now.

Any chance of getting a version for Thunderbird 2.0?

    • Ozzie says:

I’ll be looking into porting it soon, unfortunately quite a few things have come up after the last time I started looking into the port, which kept pushing it back. Hopefully I will have something solid to release not too far off, but until I post about it fully there’s nothing set for it.

  12. Tom says:

    Thanks for your work.
Been checking the Mozilla page every day.

  13. Bill says:

Thank you!!! I’m so much happier and productive with my Quick Proxy installed. I switch between networks several times a day I suffered for a week using some inferior add in because I didn’t check that quick proxy was available for 3.5 when I upgraded. I won’t make that mistake again.

Thanks for you for quick proxy and for the quick port to 3.5. You’ve made my day!

  14. Alexey Pavlov says:

Thanks for great plugin! But this version don’t work with FireFox 3.5.1.

  15. Igor says:

Firefox 3.5.1 is out. The version that worked with FF 3.5 is not compatible with 3.5.1.
Looking forward for an updated version 🙂

    Your effort is much appreciated.

    Regards.

    • Ozzie says:

The 3.5.1 incompatibility was an oversight on my part. The next release will be submitted either tonight or tomorrow with the updated version string.

  16. matrix says:

    @Ozzie
Thank you very much ! Can’t wait for new compatible version !

  17. tiBae says:

    Hey,

great work. I love you addon, but it doesn’t work with FF3.5.1. FF shows me an incompatibility.

    regards.

  18. Daniel says:

oops… and the other version was still not approved so we may guess that another 2-3 weeks is expected before a release.

Let us know the link of what you submitted so we can install it before they approve, just like we’re doing now for 3.5

    Thanks

  19. Greg says:

I am looking forward to the 3.5.1 compatibility soon. Thanks

  20. Clayton says:

Good to read there will be an update for 3.5.1. Cheers

  21. Pascal says:

    Doesnt works with firefox 3.5.1
    🙁

  22. Tax Man says:

I patched the current version so it would install under 3.5.1 and it seems to be working fine.

  23. John says:

thank you for your effort. Waiting for the 3.5.1 compatible release..

  24. dc says:

after installing 3.5.1 quickproxy does not get installed :((

  25. dc says:

god why did i upgrade to 3.5.1??? why?? This is unbelievable. Why do add-ons become unusable after upgrading to next version? shouldn’t existing add-ons remain backward compatible?

    • Ozzie says:

This has been corrected, and it should now be compatible with all future 3.5.* releases. The major versions usually require an update of the version string to get them going, even if (like QuickProxy) they are still functioning correctly.
